Let’s Talk: Free R U OK? Day Resources to Support Student Wellbeing

Every teacher knows that a simple conversation can make a world of difference — and R U OK? Day reminds us just how powerful checking in can be.

Held annually across Australia on the second Thursday of September each year, R U OK? Day encourages people to meaningfully connect and support those who might be struggling.

And as educators, we’re in a unique position to not just teach this message — but to live it, model it, and inspire it in our students.

That's why at Gifted and Talented Teacher, we've teamed up with the R U OK? Organisation to create a free resource for every single grade that is engaging and age appropriate.

The reason we took the time to create options for each grade is to avoid double up and the dreaded comment, "we've done this before" as students move through the grades and R U OK? Day is acknowledged each year.

To help you weave empathy and wellbeing into your classroom in a meaningful (and manageable) way, Gifted and Talented Teacher is proud to offer a suite of free R U OK? Day teacher resources for both staff and students - designed with educators in mind and packed with practical tools to create real connection.

3 Free R U OK? Day Teacher Resources You’ll Love

Here’s what’s inside the R U OK? Day Collection:

1. R U OK? Kit Kat Template: Break the ice with a little chocolate and a whole lot of heart.
This printable tag pairs perfectly with a Kit Kat bar and is designed to be gifted to staff or left in a shared space. It's a simple, thoughtful way to prompt that all-important question — "R U OK?" and foster a more connected, caring school community. A little treat can go a long way in starting meaningful conversations.

2. R U OK? Day Hand Template: Five fingers, five support systems.
This printable hand outline invites students to write down five trusted people they can talk to — one on each finger. It's a powerful visual reminder that help is always within reach. Use it as a classroom wellbeing activity to promote self-awareness, connection, and emotional safety. A gentle, engaging way to build students’ support networks.

3. R U OK? Chupa Chup Template: A sweet way to show you care.
Attach this bright, friendly tag to a Chupa Chup lollipop and share with staff or students to recognise R U OK? Day—or any day when a check-in matters. Whether placed on desks, in staffrooms or handed out during wellbeing week, it’s a small gesture with a big message: you're seen, you're supported, and you matter.

Simple. Meaningful. Free.

Whether you're short on time or looking to expand your wellbeing toolkit, these free teacher resources take the pressure off. No over-planning. No overthinking. Just purposeful, practical tools to support R U OK? Day and beyond.
