This resource is part of the Gifted and Talented Teacher Harmony Week collection of teacher resources designed to support kindness, connection, and wellbeing in the classroom. Created as a printable teacher resource, it helps educators foster positive classroom culture while supporting meaningful learning experiences.

Create a meaningful and visually rich Harmony Day display with this symbolic, student-centred activity that brings connection, belonging, and identity into your classroom.

Using the familiar concept of a postage stamp, students visually depict what Harmony Week means to them. Just like a postage stamp, the message of harmony day spans across towns and countries.

Students have two design options:

Option 1: Students visually depict the message of Harmony Week on a postage stamp, allowing the postage stamp to emphasise a strong message that can be carried across towns and countries.

Option 2: Students design their own stamp to represent who they are, where they come from, and what harmony means to them. Students are given specific step by step instructions to complete a segmented postage stamp.

When combined, these individual pieces form a powerful collaborative display that celebrates diversity while reinforcing the idea that we are all connected.

Why use a postage stamp for Harmony Day?

A postage stamp symbolises:

  • Connection across distances
  • Sharing stories and messages
  • Belonging in a wider community
  • Many unique pieces forming one collection

This allows students to engage in deep thinking about identity and inclusion, while creating a display that is both meaningful and aesthetic.

This teacher resource includes:

  • Teacher examples: provide students with visual examples. Discuss colour choice, large designs and meaning.
  • Activity 1: design your a universal postage stamp
  • Activity 2: design a personal postage stamp representing individual strengths and celebrating belonging
