The Taronga Zoo Scavenger Hunt is a purposeful, student-friendly booklet designed to be used on-site at Taronga Zoo Sydney or Taronga Zoo Western Plains. Created to guide students as they move through the zoo, the scavenger hunt encourages careful observation, curiosity, and connection to animals and conservation.
Students visit a range of animals on site at each zoo and complete a dedicated page for each stop. At each enclosure, students are prompted to look closely, observe details, and doodle what they notice, supporting engagement through drawing, noticing, and reflection.
Once each page is completed, students collect the coinciding zoo number linked to that animal. At the end of the hunt, students add their collected numbers together to reveal a final total — Taronga Zoo Sydney’s or Taronga Zoo Western Plains’ birthday year. This moment brings the experience together by highlighting how many years Taronga has been committed to caring for wildlife and leading conservation efforts.
The scavenger hunt is provided as a printable booklet, designed to be taken to the zoo and used as students move through exhibits. Separate versions are included for Taronga Zoo Sydney and Taronga Zoo Western Plains, with animals and numbers tailored to each location.
